Students transferring from other Finnish UAS
General principles
Transfer student must have a valid right to study at a Finnish university of applied sciences (UAS). Transferring also applies to part-time studies, degree programmes conducted in English and professional higher education studies. University students and students studying at a foreign UAS cannot be accepted as transfer students.
You can apply for transfer to HAMK only to continue studies leading to the same degree title and in the same degree programme (all conditions mentioned above must be met).
It is recommended that you apply for a transfer from the beginning of the autumn semester (application in May). In many of our degree programmes courses commence in autumn semester and continue until spring semester and because of this it is often difficult to transfer to HAMK in the middle of the academic year.
You have been enrolled as present student for at least one year at the starting UAS.
You have completed at least 45 credits / academic year. If you have been enrolled as present for three semesters you should have completed at least 67.5 credits (90 credits during four semesters etc.).
Part-time student must have completed at least 75 percent of the courses provided by the starting UAS / academic year.
Credit transfers from previous studies or degrees are not counted as records.
You must have passed the same entrance examination or an entrance examination accepted by HAMK on the basis of entrance examination co-operation (this does not apply to students in part-times studies).
In addition you must have enough right to study periods left, so that you are able to complete your degree within the right to study periods. Your right to study period started from the day you enrolled as present for the first time at the previous UAS. HAMK UAS will check the periods of attendance/non-attendance already spent by you while processing your application
Students have 3.5 years + 1 extra year right to study if the extent of the degree is 210 credits
Students have 4.0 years + 1 extra year right to study if the extent of the degree is 240 credits
Resigned student (right-to-study period has ended or student has resigned)
A student who has resigned from a UAS must apply again through the normal application process (entrance examination).
Amongst all other things, the final decision will be influenced by the size of the study group, amount of students having a right to study in the degree programme / Education and Research Centre, studies completed by the student in relation to the curriculum of the degree programme of HAMK.
Please notice that even if you are eligible to apply for a transfer, you may not be granted a transfer because of the above mentioned reasons. There is no right of appeal in decisions concerning the right to transfer.
You can apply for the right to transfer studies with an application form by 31 May (for autumn semester) and/or 30 November (for spring semester). It is recommended that you apply for a transfer from the beginning of the autumn semester (application in May). If you are however planning to apply for the right to transfer studies in November, contact the admissions office of HAMK before submitting an application.
Enclose to the application an up-to-date transcript of records, study certificate and a certificate confirming the admission points for current studies. Return the application form and the attachments to the admissions office by the due date.
The Director of Education of the Education and Research Centre makes the decision about granting the right to transfer. The decisions are aimed to be made by the end of the month in June (before Christmas in December). If you are asked for further clarifications concerning your previous studies, the decision making may be delayed from the times mentioned above.
The transfer is conditional until you have resigned from the UAS where you have earlier been studying.
• After receiving the confirmation of acceptance by HAMK, you must terminate your studies in the UAS where you have been studying and submit a certificate of resignation from your previous UAS to HAMK within the prescribed time (the degree programme will inform you about the date).
